Micro Focus is the technical partner of Jaguar TCS Racing, which last November launched its new Jaguar I-TYPE 6, the lightest, fastest, most efficient electric Jaguar race car to date. But there’s much more than velocity at the heart of this truly unique partnership. Achmad Chadran, Managing Editor of the online journal TechBeacon, sheds some sunlight on what’s under the bonnet.
Power up: Mexico City
I hope you were able to catch the first race of Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Mexico City. I was perched on the edge of my seat during the E-Prix. How incredible to watch the stunning new Jaguar TCS Racing I-TYPE 6 cars hum through the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez’s demanding sequence of fast straights and tight curves. And while my heart sank to see that Sam Bird wasn’t able to finish, I felt gratified to watch Mitch Evans finish in 8th place, to earn the team four points.
We at Micro Focus look forward to witnessing Jaguar TCS Racing build upon its impressive Season 8 Fourth-Place finish. The team were especially electrifying in last year’s races in Jakarta and Seoul. Our hope, of course, will be for Jaguar TCS Racing to best its performance from last year, as well as for new insights and innovations to arise that will feed into the development of Jaguar Land Rover’s consumer EVs.
Reinventing how people move
Speed is only one of many areas of research and development behind Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E program. A strategy of innovation and technology transfer from the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 will power the reimagination of Jaguar as an all-electric, modern luxury brand in 2025.
Jaguar Land Rover has committed to having zero tailpipe emissions and to achieving carbon net zero across its supply chain, products and operations by 2039 as part of its Reimagine strategy.
Sustainability is paramount
There should be no surprise that sustainability is as important as safety, power, and handling as a vehicle design benchmark. The recent COP27 UN Climate Change Conference clearly recognized the gravity of the global climate challenge, and the value of multilateral, collective and concerted action as the only means to address this truly global threat.
The impact of the automobile industry — from production through use and ultimate end of life — is critical in addressing this challenge.
